Our NZSki community has been growing since 1947 and continues to offer the best experience for our crew, locals, and guests alike. The overall purpose of this role is to provide safe and efficient access to vehicles up the Access Road and to provide service to guests in need of assistance in the carparks, chain bays and drop-off zone. 

About the role

  • Always prepared with correct uniform and gear for freezing weather and compliant high-viz
  • Efficient snow chain application
  • Assist with chain fitting for members of the public (fitting, removal, and correct storage)
  • Respond to weather and road conditions.
  • Delivers friendly and engaging service to all guests.
  • Identification and reporting of hazards to HOD, TL’s and Grit Truck Drivers.
  • Takes responsibility of all equipment and uniform that is allocated to him/ her.
  • Clear, concise & timely two-way radio communications.
  • Follow all legal requirements of our TMP
  • Always prepared with correct uniform and gear for freezing weather and high-viz for improved safety.
  • Using strong body language, giving clear hand signals and showing attention to detail when parking cars
  • Deliver friendly and engaging service to all guests
  • Clear, concise & timely two-way radio communications
  • Proper management of customer complaints and queries
  • Efficient parking to maximise the limited parking spaces available
  • Identification and reporting of hazards to HOD, TL’s and Grit Truck Drivers.
  • Using strong body language, giving clear hand signals, and showing attention to detail when pulling cars into drop-off area, and/or when backing cars out
  • Helping guests with their gear and giving general directions, when safe to do so.
  • Ensuring the authorised parking area is monitored periodically.
  • Deliver friendly and engaging service to all guests.
  • Ensures personal presentation is always kept to a high standard – body language is positive and uniform is correct.
  • Assist with crowd and que control when necessary
  • Actively encourage efficiency
  • Clear and concise communication with other crew members working within the dropzone
  • Continually monitoring conditions and informing HOD. TL’s, Grit Truck Driver/s.
  • Display safe driving practices and abide by specific light vehicle sign-off induction learnings at all times
  • Ensuring vehicle start-up checks are performed
  • Ensuring vehicles are kept clean and tidy
  • Reports any vehicle faults or damage to supervisor for immediate attention
  • Ensures essential roads operational items are kept in good, working order and are there for the next day i.e. chains, signage and towing equipment.
  • Prepare chain fitting bays with signage and cones
  • Meet and greet out guests travelling up our access road and advise of the current road conditions and chain calls
  • Assist our guests with fitting chains in all weather conditions
  • Monitor and report road conditions to ski area management
  • Deliver exceptional service and leadership to our guests and staff
  • Respond to guest queries and provide ski area information
  • Patrol the road ensuring it remains safe for those travelling on it
  • Assist with a range of other duties around the mountain

About You

  • A proven commitment to the overall guest experience and the ability to work under pressure in a team environment
  • A positive personality and the ability to keep an upbeat attitude no matter the weather
  • You must be comfortable working in an alpine environment in a variety of weather conditions
  • You need to be physically fit, have outgoing personalities and high levels of energy
  • Not afraid of getting your hands dirty
  • You must be health & safety conscious and a good record in this area
  • Excellent personal presentation
  • Punctual, flexible and reliable
  • Mechanical experience not required, as full training will be given
  • An understanding that employment is subject to the vagaries of the weather and the hours of work cannot be guaranteed

Skills and Qualifications

  • NZ issued driving license would be advantageous
